Been a hectic few months and a long absence here, but with good reason: I moved to Monterey, California! My science education and teaching interests have taken me to the California State University at Monterey Bay where I now wear two very festive hats: Curriculum Associate with the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center and Program Coordinator for the NSF-funded ocean sciences Research Experience for Undergraduates.
Four weeks in and I’m just scratching the surface of a new university, new climate and, hell, new country! I’ve got lots to say about my new gig, but for now I’ll just share a glimpse of our new neighbourhood.
Cannery Row is a surreal spot, full of Steinbeck, sea lions and scuba divers…
Many, many marine mammals and birds. It’s crazy how comfortable many of these beasts are with the pedestrians walking along the breakwater.
Can’t fail to mention Big Sur, a gorgeous stretch of coast just south of Monterey.
